Familial risks of lung cancer are well-established, but whether lung cancer clusters with other discordant cancers is less certain, particularly beyond smoking-related sites, which may provide evidence on genetic contributions to lung cancer aetiology. We used a novel approach to search for familial associations in the Swedish Family-Cancer Database.

Second primary cancers (SPCs) are becoming a common cancer entity, which may interfere with survival in relatively benign first primary cancers. (Deutsches Krebsforschungszentrum, DKFZ) have calculated this connection using data from the Swedish Family Cancer Register. For their calculations, Professor Dr. Kari Hemminki and colleagues of the German Cancer Research Center used the data of 102,176 Swedish women who were diagnosed with breast cancer between the years of 1970 and 2000.
